Adults with addictions to alcohol and/or drugs get a second chance and helping hand through Vitality Center’s Positive Change program. The intensive treatment program affords the structure and support troubled individuals need to rebuild a life free from their destructive dependencies.
Positive Change provides a clinically managed residential continuum of care with low, medium, and medium-high intensity programs in a highly-structured short-term (under 30 days) recovery environment for adult patients (18 or older) who suffer from an impairment in functioning due to alcohol and/or other drug dependency or abuse. The program is appropriately staffed and licensed to also meet the needs of most dual-diagnosis clients (client’s with alcohol/drug dependency and mental health problems).
In order to be accepted into the program, individuals must have substance-related problems, such as acute intoxication and/or withdrawal, biomedical conditions and complications, and/or emotional/behavioral conditions and complications. Clients must also seriously seek treatment in a secure and supportive recovery environment in order to avoid relapse.
Client communication with those outside the treatment facility is restricted during the treatment period. Each client’s schedule is highly-structured with group and individual sessions which are intensely focused on the recovery process. Each client receives direct and indirect treatment services weekly.
The treatment program emphasizes socially acceptable values, such as self-reliance, responsibility, competency, individual achievement, individual/community protection, and the importance of the family.
Topics addressed include criminal thinking and behavior, post-acute withdrawal syndrome, relapse prevention, breaking through denial, medical aspects of addiction, letting go of high-risk behavior, family function and dysfunction, cognitive restructuring, HIV/STD education, parenting, and codependency. The program includes life-skills training, experiential learning, goal setting, personal empowerment, respect for self and others, and positive self-concept and self-talk.
Counselors use assessment tools to confirm the client’s diagnosis and determine the appropriate level of care to create an individualized treatment plan.
This highly structured, holistic program develops clients' skills (cognitive, behavioral, social, language, reading, vocational, and others) to resolve their alcohol and drug abuse issues and related problems. Whenever feasible, the client’s affected family members and/or significant others are involved in the client’s recovery program.
Professional staff is on duty 24 hours a day, including medical professionals, nursing staff, licensed clinical counselors (LADC), rehabilitation technicians, dietician, and support staff. The client and his or her counselor decide when movement to the next appropriate level of care occurs. Active participation in the comprehensive, appropriate, and accessible continuing care plan is personalized for each client.
Once discharged, graduates of Positive Change actively participate in a comprehensive continuing care plan personalized for their needs.
